MABEL — The Lyle-Pacelli baseball team opened its season with a 3-2 win over Mabel-Canton (0-1 overall, 0-1 SEC) on the road Tuesday.
LP freshman Jonah Rohne struck out eight and allowed just one earned run in six innings to get the mound win and freshman Jordan Hart struck out two in a perfect seventh inning to pick up the save.
LP head coach Brock Meyer also had plenty of praise for catcher Damien Haugen, a junior who played in his first baseball game in a couple of years.
“Damien really did a good a job and they couldn’t run on him,” Meyer said. “We’ve got a lot of work to do, but this is a good way to start the year.”
LP mustered just three hits as they scored two runs off of Cougar errors.
