Marcus A. Brooks, 80, died on Sunday, April 1, 2012, of mantle cell lymphoma at his home in Austin, Minn. surrounded by family.

Marcus was born Nov. 18, 1931, in Austin to Art Brooks and Geneva Brooks (Garnet). He graduated Austin High School in 1950, and married Sharrene Brooks (Jacobson) on June 17, 1956, in Austin. He got his associate degree and went on to work for Hormel Corp. as a scale mechanic.

Bowling, fishing, camping and traveling were all hobbies of Marcus’. He also enjoyed spending time with family, friends and especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Sharrene of Austin; daughters, Darcee of Austin and Sherry of Minneapolis; son, Kelly of Austin; son-in-law, Bill Tresch; grandchildren, Isabella Mangold Brooks, Sam Mangold Brooks, Geraldo Ortiz, Ruby Tresch and Allyson, Brianna and Courtney Brooks; great-grandson, Caleb Voogd; and special canine companion, Louie.

He was preceded in death by parents, Art and Geneva Brooks, of Austin; mother- and father-in-law, Isabel and Walter Bungum of Bemidji; infant daughter; and surrogate brothers, Kenny and Colby Brooks.

Marcus made friends whereever he went. Had a smile and a kind comment for everyone. He will be dearly missed. No service will be held, per request of the deceased. Memorials may be made to the family or the Lymphoma Research Foundation.
