MEDFORD — Lyle-Pacelli eighth grader Josiah Rohne stepped up in a big way as the Athletics beat Medford (0-3 overall) 9-7 on the road Tuesday.

Rohne had a two-out, two-run hit that pulled LP within 5-4 in the fifth inning, he was hit by a pitch that gave LP (2-0 overall) the lead for good in the sixth and he caught a line drive and threw to first for a double play in the bottom of the sixth to slow down a Medford rally.

Daniel Bollinberg, another LP eighth grader also added two hits and two runs in the win.

“It’s big for those eighth graders to step up,” LP head coach Brock Meyer said. “They’re getting more confident and both of them are going to be pretty good ball players.”

LP trailed 5-0 early in in the game, but starting pitcher Jonah Rohne, a freshman, settled down and held off the Tigers from that point on.
