Tonetta Olive Coddington, 97, of Austin, Minn. passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 15, 2012, at Mayo Clinic Health System-Austin.
Toni was born Aug. 31, 1914, in Newry Township, Minn. to Tilford and Lena Johnson. She attended country school in Newry Township and then attended Austin High School. On Aug. 8, 1943, Toni married her life partner, Chester D. Coddington. After their union, the couple opened Coddington Cleaners on Austin’s East Side. Chet and Toni then made the decision to sell the dry cleaning business. Chet worked at Hormel and Toni was a mother and a homemaker. They were lifetime members of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Toni enjoyed the company of her many friends, family and especially her grandchildren, Steven Jr., Jackie, Carly and Amy. Most recently she was blessed with great-grandchildren, Sadie and Jude.
Survivors include her son, Steve (Teresa) Coddington, Austin; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; countless friends and loved ones.
She is preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Chester; sisters, Alice, Harriet and Nell; brothers, Lyle and Thomas.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Monday, March 19, 2012, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church with Rev. Glenn Monson officiating. Friends may call one hour before the service at the church on Monday. Interment will be in Red Oak Grove Cemetery.
The honorary casket bearers will be Dale Johnson, Harris Brown, Harold Hightshoe, Kenneth Dalager, Carmen Halstenson, LuVern Hanson and Russell Dugan. The casket bearers will be Steven Coddington Jr., Mike Bibus, Doug Brown, Gordon Sconberg, Don Burgess Jr. and Sam Greeley.
