Todd Michael Furtney, 49, of Austin, died Sunday, March 4, 2012, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin surrounded by his family.
Todd was born March 27, 1962, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Roy and Terry Furtney. He grew up in Waldorf-Pemberton, Minn., where he graduated from high school. After graduation, Todd moved to Monticello, Minn., where he worked as a printer. He was an avid fisherman, whether it was on ice or the open waters, and was a collector of things you didn’t know you needed. Todd was a giver and always smiling and joking. He was the “Live your life out loud” kind of guy who everyone loved being around. Todd often said how he was blessed to be loved by so many people and shared his love for all openly.
Survivors include his daughter, Amanda Oaks (Jarod), Maple Lake, Minn.; two stepdaughters, Marie Summer and Desiree, Monticello, Minn.; mother, Terry Hagen, Austin; father, Roy Furtney, Austin; stepfather, Tim Hagen, Door County, Wis.; grandmother, Violet Kerling, Austin; two grandchildren, Daimeyn and Dayzie, Maple Lake; siblings, Trisha Reynolds, Austin, Lucy (Marty) Hagen, Egg Harbor, Wis., Lance (Laurie) Furtney, Clear Lake, Minn., Ted Hagen, Milwaukee, Wis., Tiffany (Scott) Shierts, Geneva, Minn., Ian Hagen, Austin, Shawn Hagen, Monticello, Minn.; nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews; aunts, uncles and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Ed Kerling, Ferris and Marguerite Furtney.
Memorial services will 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church with Pastor Brian Krueger officiating. Friends may call one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday.
Honorary casket bearers will be Rochelle and Chelsie Reynolds, Brennon Randall, James and Cully Shierts, Logan and Kayla VanLith.
