Girls basketball: Wingers end Austin’s season

RED WING — The Austin girls basketball team saw its season come to an end in a 61-45 loss at No. 2 Red Wing (18-10 overall) in the Section 1AAA semifinals on the road Saturday.

The Wingers scored the first nine points of the game and they led by 20 with 10 minutes to go in the game as Tesha Buck led them with 19 points.

“We just couldn’t get going in the second half and then we were playing from behind,” Austin head coach Gary Peterson said. “The girls worked hard, but it just wasn’t meant to be.”

No. 3 seeded Austin (11-16 overall) had 24 turnovers and shot just 26 percent from the field.
