The second time could be a charm for the Mower County Board, Knutson Construction Services and Paul Johnson Architects.

The board may finalize contracts 1 p.m. Tuesday at its meeting in the county board room with Knutson as the project manager and Paul Johnson as architect for the county’s Government Center and Law Enforcement Center remodel.

The board postponed approving the contracts at its Feb. 28 meeting to clarify wording and minor issues in the contracts.

“Neither of these contracts has any deal-breakers,” County Attorney Kristen Nelsen said.

While Johnson and Knutson officials have had preliminary discussions about the project, final approval would jump-start planning for the project to move Health and Human Services back downtown.

The county’s cost for the Government Center remodel and Law Enforcement Center projects is about $4.6 million — about $3.8 million for the government center remodel and about $800,000 for the county’s share of remodeling the Law Enforcement Center. Including all costs — county and non-county — County Coordinator Craig Oscarson said the entire project is closer to $6 million.

In other business, the board could set a date for a workshop in April to discuss the 12-county Human Services Redesign proposal.
