Harold L. Hoffman, 75, of Austin, died Friday, March 9, 2012, at his home in Austin.
Harold was born on June 20, 1936, in Grand Meadow, Minn., to Ben and Ellen (Cassidy) Hoffman. He graduated from Elkton High School in 1954 and enlisted in the Navy serving on a minesweeper during the Korean War. After he was discharged, he attended vocational school in Austin for farm equipment mechanic. After graduation, Harold began his career at the John Deere dealership in Austin and retired after 30 years. He later was a delivery representative for propane and diesel fuels.
Harold was united in marriage to Faye Flessner on Oct. 12, 1961, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Seward, Neb.
Harold served on the church council and taught Sunday school. For many years, he also volunteered at the food shelf for the Salvation Army. Harold enjoyed his hobby of collecting toy farm equipment. He was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Ellen Hoffman.
Harold is survived by his wife, Faye Hoffman, Austin; sons: Wayne Hoffman, Austin, Bruce Hoffman, Westlake Village, Calif., Glenn (Dawn) Hoffman, Farmington, Larry Hoffman, Apple Valley, Minn.; grandchildren: Tim Hoffman, Amanda Hoffman, Colin Hoffman, Sawyer Hoffman; brothers: Vernon (Margaret) Hoffman, Dexter, LaVerne (Norma) Hoffman, Dexter, Rev. Roger (Freda) Hoffman, Syracuse, Neb.; cousin: Mable Kraft, Austin; nieces; nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 13, 2012, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with Todd Portinga, AiM officiating. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Austin Post 91. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Clasen-Jordan Mortuary and at the church for one hour before the service on Tuesday morning. Memorials are preferred to the donor’s choice.
