Mayor Tom Stiehm declared Friday, Feb. 17 Liberty Day during a proclamation signing Monday at Austin City Hall.

Liberty Day is a nonpartisan, statewide celebration of the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution. In commemorating Liberty Day, Rep. Rich Murray, R-Albert Lea, and Sen. Dan Sparks, DFL-Austin, will speak on the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution to an assembly for all eighth grade students in Austin. Members from the Austin Lions will hold the ceremony 2 p.m. at Ellis Middle School, and they will also give every eighth-grade student copies of the words from the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution.
