Phyllis A. Walz, 90

Phyllis A. Walz, 90, of Winona, Minn., died Friday, Feb. 24, 2012, at Saint Anne Extended Healthcare in Winona.

Phyllis Anne was born on July 21, 1921, to Herald and Delia (Younger) Liskow. Phyllis grew up in St. Charles, Minn.

On Aug. 7, 1942, she was united in marriage to Donald A. Walz, Sr. in Rochester, Minn. In 1945, the couple moved to Winona where they made their home. This marriage was blessed with one son, Don Jr.

Phyllis was a faithful member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and was a past member of the Elks Lodge 327, the Auxiliary, and a past member of the Community Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Don Walz Jr. (Tammy Scott) of Fountain City, Wis.; brothers: Lyle “Boots” Liskow of Plainview, Minn., and Russell Liskow; sisters: Marlys “Pudge” (David) Gathje, and Carol Mays all of Rochester; many nieces and nephews; two very special relatives: Tari Gleason of Mantorville, Minn.; and Renee Walz of Winona, Minn.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Don, on Feb. 9, 2002; parents; two sisters, Burnette Strain and Mavorette “May” Leferink.

Words are in no way enough to express the thanks to the staff at Callista Court and Saint Anne Extended Healthcare. Believe me, health care at its finest is alive and well in Winona, at these two facilities. What a wonderful caring and compassionate group of health care specialists. My mom just loved all of you. Thank you so much.

A private family service will take place at a later date.
