Lyle to narrow search for new superintendent

The Lyle Public School board will narrow the field of potential interim superintendents at a special meeting Wednesday night.

The board will meet Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to pick a new superintendent to finish the school year, as current superintendent Jim Dusso will leave the district Feb. 29.

The board has come under fire recently as Dusso alleged board chairman Jerry Sampson and board member Dan King violated open meeting law when they spoke with potential candidates before the board met to determine how to search for a new superintendent. Both board members say they had limited contact with potential candidates, as Sampson met a candidate to discuss the district’s controversies and issues while King redirected a candidate’s phone call about the job.

The district, specifically the board and Dusso, has come under fire over the past year over Dusso’s leadership. Critics say he has undermined the district through intimidation while critics say he has reformed Lyle education through tough accountability measures.
