Gladys Leona Lillie, 95, of Austin, died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home.

Gladys Lillie, 95

Gladys was born to Lyle and Birdie (Kent) Jarvis in Waltham on Sept. 22, 1916. She graduated from Austin High School in 1934 and attended North Central College in Naperville, Ill. for one year. Gladys worked at George A. Hormel Company before her marriage. On June 9, 1940, she was united in marriage to Willard H. Lillie of Austin. During WWII she worked in the Midland Air Force Base army sub depot near Odessa, Texas while Willard was stationed there.

After their return to Austin, Gladys enjoyed family activities with their two daughters, being a member of all three local garden clubs, bowling, traveling, music, the AHS Packers, the Minnesota Vikings, the Minnesota Twins and any adventure that she could think up. She had an amazing ability to get herself out of whatever trouble she managed to get into, whether it was getting trapped by a stormy high tide on the Oregon coast, tipping over a canoe on a swift river or falling off of a camel in Egypt. Gladys was a long-time member of Our Father’s House in Albert Lea and enjoyed Bible Study and their many other church activities. She was also active on the local and state level in the Women’s Christian Temperance Union.
