An Austin man was charged with four felonies in Mower County Court Wednesday after allegedly attempting to burglarize a home and assault one of its residents.
Joshua Steven Solberg, 27, faces one count of first-degree burglary with assault, first degree burglary, attempted simple robbery and domestic assault.
Solberg was arrested Monday morning after allegedly entering a woman’s home without permission at the 800 block of Eighth Ave. SW and attempting to hurt her daughter, according to a court complaint.
The woman told police Solberg entered the home through an unlocked door, but the woman and her 24-year-old daughter made Solberg leave. Solberg and the daughter had broken up recently, according to the court complaint.
The homeowner told authorities Solberg said he got jealous, took the money because he needed it and that someone was after him with a bat. Police later arrested Solberg at his home as he was walking out the back door. The complaint also states Solberg stole $321 from the woman.
Solberg said he woke up that morning and discovered some of his belongings were missing, including $220 from a safe, according to the complaint. He also said he entered the woman’s home when it was unlocked, retrieved his phone and grabbed money from a counter top that appeared to be his.
Solberg is being held at the Mower County jail on $150,000 bail. His next court appearance will be Feb. 23.
