Cordella Firsching, 91

Cordella Firsching, 91, of Stacyville, Iowa died on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012 at the Stacyville Nursing Home.

Cordella was born on May 18, 1920 in Spring Grove, Illinois to John and Susie (Miller) Miller. In Spring Grove she married George Firsching on Nov. 27, 1940. They farmed there until 1956, when they moved to Stacyville. They farmed there till they moved to town in 1976.

Cordella was active in Christian Mothers and Foresters. She along, with George, was very supportive to all of the town’s functions: the church, school, library, fire department and nursing home. She enjoyed fishing, quilting, cards, scrabble, people and the rosary. She loved anything to do with Mother Earth; gardening, yard work and even weeding. She also loved farming, working with her husband side by side. Cordella’s greatest joy was her family.

Cordella is survived by a daughter: Karen (John) Marsh; brother in law: Joe Firsching, Mason City, Iowa; sister in law Gert Retterath, Austin, Theresa Ungaro of San Pedro, Calif.; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband George; parents, John and Susie Miller; two daughters, Irma and Donna; sister Cecelia Miller.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday 10:30 am, Feb. 4, 2012, at the Visitation Catholic Church, Stacyville, with Fr. Jack McClure, CCPS, officiating. Burial will be in the Visitation Cemetery, Stacyville. Visitation will be after 9 a.m. Saturday at the church. Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home of St. Ansgar, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.
