LYLE — The Athletics had their season come to an end in a 56-48 loss to No. 5 Cleveland (10-13 overall) in the first round of the Section 1A West Division girls basketball tournament in Lyle Friday.

The No. 4 seeded Athletics (16-8 overall) led by six at one point in the second half after eighth grader Courtney Walter, who scored 13 points, hit back-to-back threes, but their offense sputtered from that point on.

“It was just a night where they really beat us up on the boards,” LP head coach Brad Walter said.

LP was hit by foul trouble in the first half as Ann Rysavy and Madison Truckenmiller each picked up three first half fouls.

“That affected our ability to do what we wanted to do,” Walter said.
