An Austin man whose brother allegedly punched his mother is in Mower County jail.

Jesse Allen Brandl, 22, faces one count of aiding an offender to avoid arrest, one count of third-degree assault, and one count of domestic assault after his brother, Jeremy Brandl, 19, allegedly punched his mother the morning of Feb. 1, according to a police report.

Police were called to the 400 block of 11th Street NW around 6:45 a.m. after the 45-year-old mother claimed her son had assaulted her.

Officers found Jesse in a bedroom, where Jeremy allegedly fled out the first-story window, according to the court complaint.

As officers were trying to get details of the incident from the mother, Jesse allegedly interrupted continuously and would not leave the room upon the officer’s request. At one point, Jesse allegedly told the victim “I guess that you got what you had coming to you,” according to the complaint. Jesse, who was reportedly intoxicated at the time, was arrested and cited for obstructing the legal process.

The victim told police her sons had taken her minivan out without her permission and returned to her home shortly before police were called. After arguing with her sons, Jeremy allegedly pushed her onto a bed and punched her.

The victim went to Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin for her injuries, and while officers were at her home, Jeremy returned and was arrested.

Jesse registered a 0.089 alcohol concentration in the Mower County jail, where he was held until he was sober.

Jesse turned himself in Feb. 3, a day after a warrant for his arrest was served. His next court appearance is Feb. 16.
