The Hayfield boys basketball team never gave up as it rallied back from two deficits in a 63-58 win over Rochester Lourdes (7-5 overall, 1-3 HVL Gold) in double overtime in Hayfield Friday.

Brady Kramer missed a possible game-winning lay-up at the end of the first overtime, but he jump-started the Vikings in the second overtime when he hit a jump shot to give them their first lead since regulation. Dillon Wagner came up with a put-back score to put the Vikings up three as they held on to the win.

Hayfield has now swept Rochester Lourdes for just the second time under head coach Chris Pack.

“It’s rare and it’s huge,” Pack said. “The kids were flying high after the game.”

The Vikings (9-3 overall, 4-0 HVL Gold) trailed 42-34 with 9:39 left in regulation and they trailed by four in the first overtime.

In regulation, they used a 9-0 run to get back in the game, and in the first overtime, Bobbie Stephens hit a pair of threes to tie the game.

“It’s hard to fall behind by eight, but I told our guys ‘we’re too good to not come back, we just needed to make a couple of shots,’” Pack said. “It was even more impressive when we came back in overtime.”

Stephens, who scored 17 points, hit five threes in the win and he is now Hayfield’s all-time leader in career three-pointers made. He has 267, which surpasses David Johnson’s mark of 264.

Hayfield scoring: Cole Kruger, 24; Bobbie Stephens, 17; Brady Kramer, 15; Dillon Wagner, 4; Brady Stevens, 2; Trevor Anderson, 1; free throws: 75 percent (12-for-16)
