LeRoy EDA takes over Wildwood Grove Inc.

LEROY — The LeRoy Economic Development Authority took over management of Wildwood Grove assisted living, located on East Main Street in LeRoy, on Jan. 1.

While a Wildwood Grove Inc. board of managers — which consisted of all local volunteers — was put into place in 2007, the LeRoy EDA decided to take over management, as this arrangement is a more practical fit.

“They did what I consider an awesome job of managing the facility,” said Sherry Hines, LeRoy Economic Development coordinator, about the former volunteers.

However, the LeRoy EDA, residents and locals had wanted to bring back more of the home atmosphere, Hines said. For a little more than the past year, Wildwood Grove had been managed by Oxford Property Management, as well. The change to the local EDA as the managing entity has restored the home feeling, Hines said.

“I think one of the visions that the EDA always had is that this facility … has a feel of home,” Hines said. “I think we’ve gotten back to that.”

Aside from shifting management, Wildwood Grove also brought in Comfort Care home health care as a consultant. Now, all of its employees have the backing of Comfort Care for an added sense of direction and authority on nursing.

“What we wanted was a little bit more expertise staying up on the rules and regulations to provide the best care for residents that live here,” Hines said.

Wildwood Grove currently has about 30 of its 34 units occupied, according to Patty White, LeRoy city clerk. Since 2001, Wildwood Grove has provided independent living, assisted living and memory care for its residents with staff on hand 24 hours a day.

Hines and White both mentioned residents’ care has not changed, and only the management structure is different. The same care staff remains on site.
