Congratulations are due the Austin High School dance team, which not only won its third Big Nine Conference title over the weekend but this week placed four of its members on the All-Conference team.

Although dance spent years struggling to earn recognition as a sport, it is becoming apparent to any interested observer that dance participants are competitors just as much as those who play other high school sports. Their achievements deserve the same recognition.

As we recognize sports achievements, it’s fitting to note also that while they still have a long road ahead, Austin High School’s basketball team is having a banner year.

Austin has not been noted for major sports success in recent years. The dance team, however, has been a consistent highlight and we look forward to seeing how they do in the sectional meet next month.
