The Hayfield girls basketball team couldn’t close out a win in regulation as it lost 53-50 in overtime at Winona Cotter (3-4 overall, 1-0 HVL Gold) Thursday.
The Vikings (2-5 overall, 0-1 HVL Gold) led by two with eight seconds left but they couldn’t stop the Ramblers from scoring on a drive-and-dish at the buzzer to tie the game.
“We need to be coming together as a team and we’re finding new ways to lose,” Hayfield head coach Fred Kindschy said.
Cotter picked up the win in overtime by showing a little more hustle on loose balls.
“They just wanted it more than we did,” Kindschy said.
Hayfield scoring: Alyssa Selk, 19; Abby Blanchard, 12; Dani Wagner, 9; Johanna Bungum, 3; Abby Pollock, 3; Jessie Foster, 2; Kelsey Severson, 2; field goals: 23 percent (15-for-65); free throws: 68 percent (15-for-22)
