Letter to the Editor
On behalf of the Austin/Mower County Veterans Memorial Committee, I would like to thank all of the veterans, families and friends for their support towards to the Veterans Memorial. This project started in 2009 and we have sold and installed over 820 pavers for veterans throughout the county and country. It has been a very successful project for the Austin area community.
This project has proven what our community can do when we work together for the good of all veterans, families and friends. When you look at the beautiful memorial with the flags of all branches of service, the POW/MIA and the beautiful eagle which is symbolic of the United States of America, it just makes you proud to be an American.
When you look at the memorial wall with those names that made the supreme sacrifice during time of war and the pavers that represent all of the veterans that have served this great country, it does your heart good to know how many of your neighbors and friends have served in this great country’s military. We still have room for about 230 more pavers, if you are wondering what you should buy for your veteran father, mother, sister, brother or friend for Christmas, here is your answer. This paver will be a historical remembrance for life. There are applications at the Veterans Service Office, American Legion Post Home, V.F.W. Post Home, Anderson Memorial, Mike Ruzek’s office, Chamber of Commerce, myself or any Veterans Memorial Committee Member.
I thank each and every one of you for your contributions to this project.
May God bless you and the United States of America. May we always be free!
Norman E. Hecimovich,
Veterans Memorial Chair
