The Southland boys basketball team prevailed 54-53 at Lewiston-Altura (1-2 overall, 1-1 Three Rivers) Friday.

The Rebels (3-0 overall, 3-0 Three Rivers) missed two free throws with eight seconds left and the Cards missed a hurried lay-up as time expired.

Southland led for most of the night, although the lead never grew.

“It was a tight game and we didn’t fold,” Southland head coach Jon Thalberg said. “We’re happy to come away with a win and we knew it would be tough one.”
