Lyle board to interview 5 candidates for board position

The Lyle Public School board has some big decisions to make at its meeting tonight.
The board will interview and choose from five applicants to fill the position left by Scott Nelson, who resigned in November because his family is moving to Austin. Brandon Slowinsky, Gerry Sampson, David Kline, Patrick Murphy and Wayne Frank all applied. The meeting is at 7 p.m. in the Lyle Public School library.
The board will also recertify its payable 2012 levy at the maximum amount, roughly $800,000. The board passed the levy about an hour before holding a Truth in Taxation meeting in December.
The board’s actions weren’t a violation of Truth in Taxation laws, according to the Minnesota School Board Association and Mower County Auditor/Treasurer Doug Groh. But Superintendent Jim Dusso said on Dec. 14 that they “put the cart before the horse,” so the board agreed to have its vote on the levy stricken from the meeting minutes and try again Tuesday.
