The valuable gems are crawling out of the woodwork this week in Austin.
The International Gold, Silver and Diamond Buyers are at the Holiday Inn, and Wade Houg, field manager, said he’s encountered some rare items since opening the show on Tuesday, including several sterling silverware sets and even a Nazi dagger.
Houg said his group paid as much as $1,500 for one of the silverware sets and $1,200 for the dagger.
“It’s going great,” he said about the turnout.
Though Houg is looking for valuable collectibles, he’s looking for all types of gold, silver and diamonds, including costume jewelry and broken jewelry, as the company will pay by the pound for certain items.
Houg added coins have recently been the hottest item on the market.
“The hot items right now are the coins, the pre-1965 silver coins,” he said.
Because of the high price of silver, those coins are bringing much more than their face values.
The International Gold, Silver and Diamond Buyers will be in Austin from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and Friday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. From there, they will head to Winona.
