Mower County Sheriff’s deputies discovered a barrel o’ valuable scrap metal Wednesday in a Rose Creek resident’s front yard.

Sheriff Terese Amazi said the four-foot-high barrel was full of copper wire, some already stripped and some still with plastic covering. Local scrapyards pay about $2.25 per pound for copper, according to Dan Jennings of Dan Jennings Scrapyard.

Amazi said the owners of the property on which the barrel was found didn’t know who the barrel belonged to or when it was put in their yard.
