Something new is cooking at the former site of Tolly’s Time Out.

Julie Johnson has opened Home Plate — a baseball-themed restaurant with American food — located at 100 14th St. SW.

Home Plate is open for breakfast and lunch Tuesdays-Sundays, and for dinner on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

The restaurant’s theme is geared toward local teams and the Minnesota Twins, according to its website, www.homeplateaustin.com. The restaurant is open Tuesdays-Sundays for breakfast and lunch, and on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, it re-opens at 5 p.m. for dinner. According to its website, dinners are “bring-your-own-bottle.”

The breakfast menu — available all day — includes pancakes and waffles, French toast, eggs and bacon. The lunch menu features sandwiches, burgers, salads, homemade soup and pies. For dinner, Home Plate offers entrées such as steak and shrimp or prime rib, although that changes from week to week.

Under previous owner Jim Herrick, Tolly’s originally served American food but later switched to an Italian format, and has been closed since May.

Home Plate is open Tuesdays-Sundays from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The restaurant is closed on Mondays.

Johnson declined to comment for the story.
