The Austin Area Foundation selected which area organizations and groups from throughout the community will receive its annual distribution of grants. Funds for these grants are made available through the Austin Legacy Fund. In five years, $38,000 has been given to support local organizations.

For 2011, the Austin Area Foundation will award $12,000 in grants to:

•Paramount Theatre — Basement/lobby renovation: $700

•Matchbox Children’s Theatre — Production costs: $1,000

•Northwestern Singers — Musicians and set building: $1,000

•Habitat for Humanity Freeborn/Mower — Materials/labor: $1,500

•Austin Symphony Orchestra — Oct. 30/31 concert: $1,500

•Austin Page Turners — Author visit: $800

•Seibel Center — Visits for three families: $1,000

•Mower County Senior Advocacy Caregiver Program: $1,000

•Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin — Expansion: $1,000

•Mower County Historical Society — Microfilm records: $1,000

•Children’s Dental Health Services — Operating expenses: $1,000

•Austin Area Art Center — Operating expenses: $500
