The Community Against Bullying had a good year in 2011.

The group, which organized in February after several children experienced bullying issues, is proud of its accomplishments and looking to do more advocating and educating next year.

“We laid a pretty good foundation,” said City Council member and CAB volunteer Marian Clennon at CAB’s meeting Tuesday night.

Yet CAB is already looking to 2012, as the group met Tuesday to evaluate the year and figure out what initiatives volunteers want for next year.

“The key is to continue to educate our community,” said Danielle Borgerson-Nesvold, CAB head volunteer.

What’s more, the group is looking to help others involved in bullying. Local psychologist Dr. Mark Kossman will reportedly start a support group for bully victims next month, according to Borgerson-Nesvold. That should help victims open up, as CAB volunteers worry that residents aren’t sharing their troubles despite a huge outpouring of support for CAB.

“I don’t think we’re hearing from everybody,” Borgerson-Nesvold said.

Yet CAB volunteers are aware of the issues Austin faces and hope initiatives like bringing in motivational speaker The Scary Guy this fall helps the community.

“We really made people aware of it,” said CAB volunteer Polly Jelinek.
