The Riverland women’s basketball team couldn’t hang on to the ball as it committed 41 turnovers in a 78-53 loss to North Iowa Area Community College in Riverland Gym Wednesday.

The Blue Devils (1-2 overall) scored the first seven points of the game, but NIACC answered with a 13-2 rally and RCC never took the lead again.

“We’ve got to find someone who can handle the ball. Our inexperience in the backcourt is hurting us,” RCC head coach Suzy Hebrink said.

Austin grad Rebekah Aase played a strong second half for the Blue Devils and she finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

“She’s coming along well and she’s getting stronger with the ball,” Hebrink said.

RCC learned some harsh news right before the season began as Takiyah Stewart tore her ACL in a preseason scrimmage and is done for the season.

“It hurt to lose her. She would’ve handled the ball a lot,” Hebrink said.
