Police are investigating a shooting that reportedly happened near Seventh Street and First Avenue SW on Tuesday evening.
Police Chief Brian Krueger said officers were called to the area of Galloway Park around 5 p.m. on a report of multiple gunshots. There is no known victim or indication that anybody was shot, Krueger said.
Witnesses told officers they saw one Asian man and three black men running away from the area. Police detectives located three shell casings on the corner of Seventh Street and First Avenue SW. Krueger said the casings appeared to be from a 9 mm pistol.
“(There is) no indication where the projectiles went or what direction the gunfire was directed at,” Krueger said.
A witness who called police said he was driving east on First Avenue near Seventh Street SW when the shooting happened. He said he heard two gunshots and saw who he thinks was the gunman.
“I heard two gunshots and I just happened to look up at that time and see (two black men) running across First Avenue going north,” he said. “I went around the block to see if I could get a better look at them, and at the same time I noticed the apparent shooter. I saw the pistol grip sticking out of his waistband on the right side. He looked at me and I kept driving.”
The witness said it appeared the gunman was firing south or southwest down Seventh Street.
Detectives interviewed several subjects, but the police report did not indicate if the people are considered suspects, Krueger said.
Krueger said he has no indication of this incident being related to two recent armed home invasions in which the suspects were three black men.
The incident is under investigation.
