The Riverland volleyball team couldn’t put it all together in a loss to Rochester Community and Technical College by scores of 25-21, 25-11, 25-21 in Riverland Gym Wednesday.

“We’re the last team in the conference so it was good to give the number two team a pretty good match,” RCC head coach Sara Heim said. “We just need consistency.”

The Blue Devils (0-10 overall) pulled to within 21-20 in the first game after Austin grad Robin Arjes hammered down a kill. RCC led the third game 20-19 but RCTC’s Jill Oftedahl put down a kill and Abbie Fay, a Grand Meadow grad, spiked down a kill inside the back line to make it 21-20.

RCC pulled to within 22-21 in the final game when Laura Hemann spiked down a down, but that was all the Blue Devils could muster.

Arjes finished with five kills and four blocks.

“Robin has improved tremendously, she’s got a great work ethic,” Heim said.

Riverland struggled from the serving line throughout the night as they had a few missed serves, but Heim was glad her team was attempting difficult serves.

“We had a goal to go for aces and I’m glad we had the confidence to go for it,” she said.
