A 50-year-old Austin man may face charges after a dumpster started on fire shortly after he was seen near it.

Austin police responded to a dumpster fire at Western Manor Apartments Sunday night around 8:30 p.m. They extinguished the fire upon arrival and spoke to a witness who said the man had been near the dumpster prior to the fire starting.

Police Chief Brian Krueger said the police report did not indicate whether the man started the fire on purpose.

The man was not arrested, but he was placed on a 72-hour hold while the police report is sent to the Mower County Attorney’s office.
