LEROY — The Cardinals didn’t waste any time showing they meant business in a three-game sweep of Lyle/Pacelli in a volleyball match Tuesday.

LeRoy/Ostrander (5-3 overall, 3-1 SEC) closed the opening game with a 10-point run and it ended up winning by scores of 25-3, 25-10, 25-10.

L/O senior Krista Bunne, who had four of her five aces during the game one rally, said the match gave her a chance to work on some new things.

“We just try to stay focused and get everyone into it. I’ve been practicing a couple of different serves,” said Bunne.

Chanda Riedemann, a senior, used the game to help fine tune her timing with setter Megan Grant. Riedemann hammered down 11 kills and Grant had 17 assists.

“It’s fun getting kills and it’s nice practice,” Riedemann said. “It’s easier to get the timing down in a game.”

L/P (1-7 overall, 1-3 SEC) never really found its rhythm in any of the games as it struggled with serve receives and serving.

“This was the worst they’ve played and it started with serve receive,” L/P head coach Lindsay Leif said. “We’re typically pretty good at that and they did have some good servers, but we also didn’t move our feet and get the ball up.”

The Athletics may have been a little overwhelmed by the Cards, who have perennially won the SEC West title.

“LeRoy’s a good team, but we could’ve played with them way more,” Leif said. “They didn’t bring any energy and they were down. It’s hard to win any volleyball game against any team when you don’t have the energy.”

L/O stats: Megan Grant, 17 assists; Chanda Riedemann, 11 kills, 1 block; Krista Bunne, 6 kills, 5 aces; Becca Bunne, 7 kills; Jessica Jennings, 5 digs, 5 aces
