It’s almost time for a new school year.

That’s why Austin Superintendent David Krenz will give a State of the District report at the school board meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the City Council Chambers.

Krenz will give a summary of the major issues Austin faced last year, including the upcoming bond referendum vote on Nov. 8 for a $28.9 million project to build a new grades five-six school and Sumner Elementary School’s switch to a 45/15 calendar schedule. The referendum also included an expansion of Woodson Kindergarten Center.

In addition, Krenz will outline the district’s strategic roadmap for the next five years, giving the public the opportunity to hear about the direction district officials are moving.

The board will vote to approve a resolution calling for a general election this November as well. Six candidates, including incumbent candidates Kathy Green and Don Fox will vie for four open seats this year. Angie Goetz, Jeff Ollman, Greg Larson and Carol McAlister are also on the ballot.
