Heat win elimination game; will play Saturday

The Hayfield Heat found their only offense at the right time when they beat the Rochester Roadrunners 1-0 in a Region 5C elimination game at Riverland Sunday.

Tyler Nelson doubled with two outs in the first inning and he scored on a single by Craig Selk to give the Heat (14-11 overall) the early lead.

Hayfield didn’t have another hit over the next eight innings, but Aaron Krejci did his job on the mound as he scattered eight hits in a shutout.

The Heat turned two double plays, including one to end the game and they committed no errors.

Hayfield needs two more wins to get to the Class ‘C’ state amateur baseball tournament and it will take on Winona in an elimination game at Marcusen Park at 1 p.m. Saturday.

The Heat dropped their Region opener to Owatonna 12-0 as the Heat had six errors and just three hits.
