The Grand Meadow volleyball team kicked off their season with a marathon against Randolph Thursday night. Unfortunately, it was on the losing end, 3-2 (23-25, 25-19, 25-20, 17-25, 11-15).

“I was really impressed with our team and how we set up our offense,” head coach Michael Keefe said.

GM (0-1, 0-0 SEC) was led at the net by junior middle hitter Cortney Olson, who recorded 20 kills.

“She really played a complete game, all the way around,” Keefe said.

Senior outside hitter Stephanie Russell added 11 kills.

Setter Autumn Thorsen, a junior, had 31 set-assists, 13 digs and 10 ace serves.

“Thorsen did a great job for us setting and really controlled the tempo with her serving,” Keefe said.

As a team, however, GM suffered from too many mistakes from the service line.

“We had 19 missed serves, which really breaks any kind of momentum,” Keefe said.

Grand Meadow takes on Spring Grove Tuesday night.
