Austin American Legion to host breakfast for Legacy Riders

The Minnesota American Legion Legacy Ride will be passing through Austin the morning of Saturday, Aug. 20. To celebrate their arrival, the American Legion Family of Post 91 will host the Riders for a breakfast to fill their tanks for the day’s ride to Montevideo by way of Owatonna, Mankato, New Ulm, Redwood Falls and Marshall.

The Riders all volunteer their time to promote awareness of and raise funds for the American Legion Legacy Scholarship Fund. The Fund helps pay for the post-secondary schooling expenses of children who have lost a parent post-Sept. 11 in service as an active duty member of the U.S. Military or National Guard or as a federalized reservist. The need is great and, unfortunately, continues to grow, organizers said.

To make a donation to the fund or learn more about the Legacy Scholarship Fund, meet with the Riders between 8 and 8:45 a.m. at the Post at 809 12th St. SW in Austin. Donations will also be accepted and presented to the Riders at the Sons of the American Legion National Convention in Minneapolis on Aug. 26.
