Polka Music Festival features play-off

Polka is not just a type of dot, people.

That’s why local organizers are putting on a polka dance at the Paramount Theatre this Friday.

The Polka Music Festival will feature the Blue Banners, a nationally-recognized polka band that will play its greatest hits, along with the classics. Also playing is Big Ben and the Brians, another well-known local polka band that will play with the Blue Banners during the show. While each will perform, the bands will eventually have a polka play-off, for the audience’s benefit.

The Paramount will be reconfigured into a dance hall for the night, giving people a chance to, well, polka.

“The folks that remember the ballroom times will enjoy this because it’s going to be done as it was in the ballrooms,” said Denny Charnecki, one of the show’s organizers.

The festival starts at 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 8, and will continue until people can’t dance anymore. Tickets are $7 for adults and students.
