A 26-year-old Austin man was sentenced to 23 years in prison on Thursday for molesting a 3-year-old girl.

Ronald Sandberg-Karnes was convicted of first-degree criminal sexual conduct by a Mower County jury in early February.

According to a court complaint, he had been babysitting the girl on Aug. 3, 2010. Later that day, the girl told her mother about the sexual encounter. After an exam at the Midwest Children’s Resource Center, nursing staff determined there had been sexual contact.

The court complaint did not include a statement from Sandberg-Karnes.

Sandberg-Karnes was convicted of domestic assault in Mower County in 2006 and in Steele County in 2008.
