An Austin man was taken to Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin after crashing a motor scooter while allegedly intoxicated.

Police Chief Brian Krueger said Trevor Bakken, 22, crashed a 2008 Honda motor scooter in the 2200 block of 18th Avenue SW around 1 a.m. Saturday. Bakken smelled of alcohol, according to the police report.

Although he kept telling officers he was “fine” and didn’t need medical attention, Bakken was taken to MCHS-Austin as a precaution. His injuries are unknown, Krueger said.

Witnesses heard the crash and came outside to investigate, at which point they found Bakken a few feet away from the scooter. Krueger said there were fresh skid marks on the pavement from where Bakken swerved.

According to the police report, Bakken had borrowed the scooter.

Krueger said the report has been forwarded to the city attorney for appropriate charges.
