The Austin Community Band will continue its tradition of outdoor concerts featuring many of Austin’s finest musical talent with “Concerts in the Park” on June 22 and 29 and July 3.

Favorites include: Peter Jacobs, Steve Krob, Dave Kallman, Ann Flisrand, Dr. Cassie Guy-Walker, Roger Boughton, Nicole Kruger, Dr. Ralph Pesonen, Janet Oman, Luke Bennett, Vern Lippert, Bradley Carlton, the Knoll family, and dozens more.

The 38-member Austin Community Band, under the direction of Brian Koser, will showcase a variety of interesting musical selections ranging from original overtures, pops medleys, spirituals and classic marches, to show tunes, patriotic numbers and broadway showstoppers.

Weather permitting, community members are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs for seating in front of the Bandshell. The concerts are free of charge and last approximately one hour, from 7 to 8 p.m.

For the past 20 years, the Austin Community Band has been providing its unique brand of musical entertainment. According to its director, “In past years, we have performed in the swimming pool lot area, behind the library overlooking Mill Pond, and in downtown square. Recently, we’ve settled on a home in Bandshell Park, which seems to provide the very best venue for our open-air concerts.”

When asked what makes these events so special, Koser replied, “Without a doubt, the wonderful personalities and dedicated personnel we have in the group. Community volunteer bands are not unique to towns the size of Austin, but they’re becoming less-and-Iess common, and we’re just fortunate to have been able to keep this tradition alive for so many years with so many competing activities.”

The ensemble is part of Austin’s Freedom Fest celebration again this year, and will be featured in front of the first of two fireworks displays from 8:30 to 10 p.m. Sunday, July 3.
