Young sets Riverland homerun record in sweep

The Riverland baseball team avenged an earlier loss to Anoka-Ramsey by sweeping them by scores of 10-0 in five innings and 12-0 in five innings at Dick Seltz Field Saturday.

“We played some of our best baseball today,” RCC head coach Scott Koenigs said. “This team gave us some problems a week and a half ago and our guys were looking forward to playing them again.”

Kyle Young set the Riverland school record for homeruns as he hit his 18th career homer on a solo shot in the first game and he bumped the record up to 19 with a grand slam in the second game.

Brad Winkelman and Kyal Williams also homered in the second game.

RCC (24-11 overall, 6-2 MCAC South) will host Rochester in a key doubleheader Wednesday at 2 p.m.

“Those games will probably decide the conference title and they’ll have a big impact on seedings,” Koenigs said.
