Rushford/Peterson hand Southland its first loss

The Southland baseball team suffered its first loss of the season as it fell 17-13 at Rushford/Peterson (2-7 overall) Tuesday.

R/P hit two grand slams in the game, including a walk-off blast in the bottom of the seventh. In all, Southland allowed four homers that led to 13 runs.

The Rebels (9-1 overall), who led 13-5 after six and a half innings, also had five errors.

“We had too many mental lapses and it was almost like we quit playing,” Southland head coach Scott Retterath said. “It wasn’t just one play that cost us, it was a bunch and (R/P) hit the ball when they had to.”

Trevor Emanuel pitched six innings for Southland, but Alan May took the loss in relief.
