“It was disappointing,” Austin head coach Troy Watkins said. “We didn’t play good baseball today and we gave them a lot. JM’s one of the better teams in the conference but we made them look awfully good today.”

Austin pitcher Quinn Yocom got off to a solid start in the second game as he didn’t allow a run in the first inning. The Rockets (12-1 overall, 9-1 Big Nine) plated two unearned runs in the second inning and took advantage of four Austin errors in the third inning to go up 9-1.

The Packers (3-11 overall, 1-10 Big Nine) scored a run in the second off a two-out throwing error and Jacob Thompson knocked in a run with a single in the fourth inning.

In the first game, Gabe Kasak and Yocom had back-to-back sacrifice flies in the fifth inning to make it 11-2.

Austin will play two more doubleheaders this week as it heads to Mankato West Thursday and hosts Rochester Mayo Friday.

“We’re going to have to (forget these games),” Watkins said. “We’ve got four more games this week and it’ll be tough on pitching.”
