Helen Anna (Mutinski) Rasmussen, 101, died at Our House Assisted Living on Thursday, May 12, 2011, surrounded by her family.

Helen was born on March 28, 1910, in Chicago to Joe and Barbara (Schultova) Mutinski. She grew up in Austin. She worked in her fathers shoe shop as a young girl and also was a waitress at the Austin Cafe. She met her husband Henry Rasmussen at the Austin Cafe. He would come in everyday to order lemon meringue pie. They then were married in 1937. They had two children Gloria and Jim Rasmussen. Henry worked at Hormel Foods. When he retired they moved to McAllen, Texas, to a retirement community. Helen enjoyed golfing, shuffle board and playing cards with friends. She returned to Austin after her husband Henry passed away. She also enjoyed cooking, baking and entertaining with family and friends. Her other passion was to sew handmade clothing for her three grandcildren, Debbie, Cherri and Robyn. In addition she enjoyed playing and having fun with her great grandchildren Garret and Isaac.

Helen was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church and the Bohemian Fraternal Lodge. Her parents came from Czechoslovakia. Helen was 100 percent Bohemian.

Survivors included her daughter Gloria (Luther) Hanson, Scottsdale, Ariz., and her son Jim (Phyllis) Rasmussen, Austin, Minn. Three grandchildren, Debbie, Cherri and Robyn Rasmussen all of Austin; two great grandchildren, Garrett and Isaac of Austin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Henry, her sister Mary (Bert) Alstadt and her brother Joe (Tess) Holan.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 15, at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Joe Fogal officiating. There will be a 4 pm rosary on Saturday afternoon at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from from 4 to 6 p.m. on Saturday. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
