SOUTH ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — A Minnesota man whose brother’s death in Iraq sparked a criminal probe has now been deployed to the same conflict.

U.S. Army chaplain Brad Cedergren deployed Friday with the Minnesota National Guard’s 1st Brigade Combat Team.

His brother died in 2004 when he was electrocuted in the shower, but the family had been told otherwise.

Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class David A. Cedergren was from South St. Paul. His family was told the 25-year-old died of natural causes.

It took four years before the manner of his death was charged to “accidental,” caused by electrocution and inflammation of the heart.

Deb Cedergren is Brad and David’s mother. She says she’s praying that 35-year-old Brad remain safe. She says she has to have faith that God “wouldn’t do this to us again.”
