The Southland softball team edged out No. 6 seeded Goodhue (5-16 overall) 5-4 in a first round Subsection 1A East Division elimination game in Rose Creek Thursday.

The Rebels (13-7 overall) won the game when Brandi Schammel knocked in Jana Schammel with no outs in the bottom of the seventh with a single down the right field line.

Jana Schammel singled to lead off the inning, stole second and advanced to third on a bunt single by Lindsey Bottema.

“It’s always great to be moving on and we’re just taking it one game at a time,” Southland head coach Greg Schulte said.

Southland will play No. 2 Houston (14-5 overall) at Peterson Saturday at 11 a.m.
