The Lyle/Pacelli girls golf team had its easiest outing of the season while the boys team had its best score of the season in a sweep over Glenville/Emmons at River Oaks golf course Monday.

The L/P boys posted a 194 to G/E’s 203 as it was the first time the Athletics have been under 200 this season.

Michael Kline, Max Brennan and Spencer Holtorf all shot under 50 to lead the way.

“It was good to get those three in the 40s and it was nice to get under 200,” L/P head coach Mark Buntje said.

The L/P girls posted a 245, which isn’t one of their better scores, but they didn’t have any competition as G/E’s lone golfer couldn’t make it.

“I think it was a little tough for the girls since it was just them against themselves,” Buntje said. “But if they’re going to have a (high) score, it might as well have been today.”

The L/P girls are now 8-0 overall and 5-0 in conference duals as they continue to build on last season’s efforts that saw them win the subsection meet.

L/P graduated one key golfer in Emily Leif from that team, but Abby Leif, a junior, and Maggie Leif, an eighth grader, have helped pick up the slack along with senior Lauren Rieker.

Jennie Marx, a junior who went to state last season, continues to lead the team and she was meet medalist on Monday with a 55.

“We’ve had some people step up and Jennie’s just amazing,” Abby Leif said. “We’ve kept our season going from last year. Today wasn’t too tough, but it was really wet out.”

While Marx has had a lot of success this season, she’s still looking on getting better — especially on the greens.

“We could probably all improve. I could work on my on putting and chipping,” she said.

While regular season success is nice for the Athletics, they still have their minds on one thing.

“We’d like to get back to the section tournament,” Rieker said.
