Police to target distracted drivers

Those who text message while driving might want to think twice about their actions — especially on Thursday.
Thursday is Distracted Driving Day, and extra law enforcement patrols will be watching for distracted drivers from 2 to 10 p.m.
Police Chief Brian Krueger said there are all kinds of distracted driving, but the focus Thursday will be text messaging.
“If the officer, in their view, believes the driver is distracted for some reason, they’ll pull them over and discuss it,” Krueger said. “It (will target) any and every distraction possible that would take the driver’s eyes off the roadway and cause concern to the officer.”
While some tickets may be given out on Thursday, Krueger said the day is primarily meant to educate the public and warn people of the dangers of distracted driving.
