Duayne Kenneth Njos, 86, formerly of Blooming Prairie, died at the Albert Lea Medical Center Thursday afternoon, April 7, 2011.

Duayne was born June 2, 1924, in Carpenter, Iowa, to Peter and Laura (Williamson) Njos. He grew up in the Oakland, Minn., area. In 1945, Duayne joined the Army, and served for two years. On March 23, 1950, he married Gladys Patzer in Mower County. He worked as a farmer, as well as for Culligan and for a roofing company before becoming self-employed in 1971 as owner of D&G Roofing. In 1987, he began his retirement. Duayne’s favorite pastimes were barbecuing, gardening and auctions. He was an avid collector and loved an evening country drive and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys; children, Suzanne (John) Harris of Hollandale, Richard Njos Sr. of Wabasha, Wayne (Karen) Njos of Blooming Prairie, Randy (Lorraine) Njos of Pueblo, Colo., Scott (Stacy) Njos of Austin; 11 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great-grandchild; brother, Paul Njos of Belvidere, Ill; brother-in-law, Arnold Patzer of Austin; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Josephine, Loretta, and an infant sister; three brothers, Harry, Lawrence, and Dale Njos.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday April 11, at First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie with Pastor Charles Leonard and Pastor Heidi Heimgartner officiating.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday April 10, at Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment is at Red Oak Grove Cemetery, rural Austin, with military rites by American Legion Post 52. Memorials are preferred to the family. Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
